Report Date 15/02/07 |
The Group departed Plaza de Mulas BC without Head Guide Pablo Vitale, who has bronchitis and has to be evacuated. Under Mauricio Moreno Guidance, they went to C1 on Wensday and moved to C2 today, experiencing very high winds and extreme low temperatures. The plan is to "hang on" at C2 waiting for the weather to improve before moving to C3 tomorow. As this cold front swipes by the mountain, the continuation of this expedition now depends on temperatures and team member's strenght and health. |

Report Date 12/02/07 |
The altitude started to take its toll on the team, as Gareth Hughes and Jody Burns had to be evacuated by helicopter from Plaza de Mulas yesterday morning after enduring a rough night with mild pulmonar edema. They went to the clinic yesterday afternoon for a full check up, and their health is improving fast.
The rest of the group is in good condition and today they will climb up to Plaza Canada (C1), passing the 5.000 meter line, porting all the altitude gear, to descend back to Plaza de Mulas BC and rest tomorow in preparation for the altitud section of their expedition.
The weather is unstable but the forecast predicts an improvement for the following days.

Report Date 09/02/07 |
The Group entered the Park yesterday and hicked up to Confluencia BC (3.300).
Today they will go pay a visit to the mountain most spectacular face, The South Wall, as part of their aclimatization program.
After an early breakfast at the Dome, the group will set off for Plaza Francia. This trail will take them by the Horcones Inferior River (Horcones River Lower Fork), and later on by the glacier that feeds the river.
Spectacular views along the way will lead them to discover the immense amphitheater of the South Face: 3000 vertical meters of rock, ice and hanging glaciers that from time to time will leave the visitors astonished with an avalanche.
They will have lunch at “el mirador”, a panoramic platform that outlooks the South Face, and learn the facts and tales of the first daredevils that conquer it.
After having rested, the group will return to Confluencia BC. Our camp attendants will serve them a snack while they enjoy the sunset and get ready for a well-deserved dinner.
